Our Spring season here at the Majestic is off to a great start! We have a ton of great events coming up this season starting with this weekend’s opening of Terry Pratchett’s Mort! Here are a few updates on the goings on here at the Majestic and some important items coming up in the next month.
The 2016 Holiday Donation Campaign
We initiated a holiday donation campaign in November to help us meet our annual donation goal of $100,000 and the results are in! We raised over $26,000 from November through January to bring our grand total to just under $46,000 for the year! That means we’re almost half way to our goal and we have until June to make it all the way to 100%. This goal supports our volunteer productions and allows us to provide a higher level of service than depending strictly on returns from our events. If we don’t make the goal, we’ll have to lower our level of service next year. So help keep the Majestic at the level of quality and service our volunteers have come to love with your donation today.
The Majestic STAR Program
Speaking of our amazing donors, we’ve just received back enough responses to send in our first order of stars for the Majestic STAR program. The star program recognizes donors that contribute over $100 during a season with an engraved star as part of a new display in our main lobby. Star donors decide what is engraved on their stars and it has been delightful working with them to get their memorials, family names, and messages of kindness planned out and off to our friends at R3 Engraving to be created. So in about two weeks, be sure to pop in and check out our new display honoring all of the amazing donors who help make the Majestic happen!
Majestic Proposal System Meetings
Majestic community members are calling for a change to the proposal system that removes the power of choice from the Theatre Supervisor and transfers it to the community. Various methods have been discussed and a decision for a new system will need to be reached by mid-April to begin the new proposal season. We will be holding forums in place of the usual monthly forums to decide this issue during February, March, and April. Please use this Doodle Poll to choose the dates in each month that you can attend so that we can ensure the maximum number of Majestic folks can be there. Once the dates have been chosen, I will post them on our website and social media outlets along with an agenda outlining some of the ideas so far.
Transition to Volunteer Staffing & Volgistics
Over the past three months we have initiated a new volunteer management system called Volgistics and used it to transition to using volunteers to staff our Concessions and Box Office Lead positions. While we’re still learning how best to use the system and all its features, the results have been amazing! While I’ve always been astounded by the dedication and passion of our volunteers, seeing them step up to fill these roles over the past three months has been inspiring. With Volgistics, we’re able to coordinate the wide variety of weekly tasks and projects that we need to make the theater work with a new level of efficiency. The willingness of our volunteers to embrace it has been paramount to its success. I would also like to applaud our Volunteer Coordinator Natalie Sullivan and the rest of the Majestic staff for the hours of time and unceasingly positive energy that they have put into this complex system to bring it online. It’s important to remember that hundreds of volunteers per month are coordinated, trained, and supported by our staff, with myself being the only full time employee.
Well, that’s it from me for now. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns, or thoughts that you may have about how things are going here at the theater. Until next month, thank you for all that you do to support the Majestic Theatre!
